Blood Work! "True Blood" video blog 2.7: Taste the rainbow!

In this week's Very Special Blood Work, Andy and I taste-test the new TruBlood carbonated beverage. Will we prefer it cold, hot, or with vodka? I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count.

Plus, we of course discuss the wacky seventh episode of True Blood Season Two, "Release Me". What of Eggs and Little Miss Baconpants? What of zombie whores and skank hos? And can the show ever again reach the brilliance of Sarah Newlin's "Golfcart of the Valkyries" moment?

All this and a heck of a hangover await, below. Hurry ... it's going faster than fritters on a fat farm!

Yay, another great vlog. :-)

Was Sam turning into an owl to get away from Maryann not nine kinds of awesome? Loved that.

This was the first episode in which Andy Bellefleur didn't annoy the snot out of me. Poor guy...he's turned into an unwitting Cassandra. If Andy, Tara, and Sam would just get together they could figure everything out, but even if they did I don't know what they could do about it since Maryann seems to be pretty much invincible.

Lafayette seems to be faking most of his "pizazz." You could tell during the phone call with that client that his heart just wasn't in it...there was a deadness behind in his eyes. Nelsan Ellis is such a great actor.

I'm guessing Godric's weird shirt was some kind of ceremonial garb for "meeting the sun." We'll find out, anyway, in the next episode....which can't be too soon!

Great vlog, guys!
I've been having a "Whatever Tara" moment for weeks now. I know Maryann makes everyone (except Andy) alien eyed, but she isn't spellbound all the time, and even when Tara has questioned Maryann, she's never once said "Uh, excuse me, but this is not only Sookie's house, but it was Gran's house when she was alive and she pretty much raised me. So, out of respect, you gotta leave." I keep thinking that when Sookie gets back and she finds out that Tara let a bunch of strangers, orgies or not, live in her house, she'll owe Tara a hardy smack. Or maybe that's just me. I don't know how they do things in Louisiana, but I'm from Texas (Dallas, actually), which isn't that far away and there's no way anyone would let strangers move into someone else's house and not expect the home owner to get really upset. That's just not done, as we would say.
And what about Andy? Some have raised suspicions about his supernatural abilities, since Daphne told Sam they can't be taken over by Maryann because they're Supes, well, Andy did his epileptic on meth dance the first time, but hasn't been affected since. Why, I wonder? I know he's not a Supe in the books, but Alan Ball's not afraid to change things for the show. Hmmm....
Thanks for the laughs...

Count me as a member of the Blood Work Groupies. As soon as I saw it was up, I couldn't hold back from watching. Have you guys thought of keeping a vlog going after the show is done for the season?

I noticed you added Skyy to your Tru Blood Orange, isn't Skyy a little citrusy to begin with?

No comment about the first penis in the series (random extra before Andy gets his arm broken)?

Like Fresca, I think Lafayette is going through the motions.

Another reason this episode wasn't so great: No Pam. :(

And the actress who plays Lorena is awful.

And I totally agree with fandango girl, look forward to your volgs each week, they're amazing

I love you guys! Thank you so much for doing the vlog. Seriously. I totally agree with the Whatever, Sookie moment this week. I honestly didn't even think of that. I'm still waiting for you to put Eric on your I Wanna Do Bad Things with You cards. I hope he'll do something worthy before the season's over. For me, his existing is worthy enough. Let me just say that me and Nystacular there watch and gossip about Blood Work every week. I'm going to tease her for commenting. Keep up the good work!

I don't really have a problem with the 1920's and 30's flashbacks. I actually like Lorena. I think the problem is that they don't really have the screen-time to flesh out her character.

What I do have a problem with is the handling of the central "mystery" of the show "The Fellowship of the Sun" and their "possession" of Godric. Once we were introduced to the "Fellowship" the story basically stalled until Sookie was captured. In other words, there hasn't been ANY development of that storyline - only the awkward situations of Jason. The same thing kind of happened last season - the murder mystery was poorly developed and poorly thought out.

One: you're totally right about Bill's hair. They changed Eric's hair, they can change his. I think it makes him look dreadful. I love his 20's-30's hair so much better.

Two: You didn't like Club Dead? It is my favorite in a tie with the fourth book. I think that it has the best ability to make for a good transition to the TV series than any of the others and I can't wait to see who they get to play Alcide, Debbie Pelt, and the King of Mississippi!

I freakin' love you guys! Please never stop! OH, and Sookie is a telepath, not psychic you guys. So cut her a little slack on this episode because if Steve wasn't thinking about how Jason was involved then she wouldn't know. So far my only disagreement with you ever!

I absolutely love this vlog. Andy is definitely my long lost brother! Hold on to him Brian, cause he's a keeper.
Anywho, does Andy have supernatural powers? The only reason he was dancing so funky before was because he was trashed, and he does seem to be immune to Mary Anne, the beotch! Also, did anyone catch the extended teaser ad for the rest of the season? Who was that blond behind Sookie in the bed??? Also, I'll have to get one of those, written in Gold of course, Bitch shirts Lafayette had on. How Precious! Love this vlog so keep it up.

Gosh, I love you guys so much!

My "Whatever, Sookie" moment (love those) is when Hugo is totally having a panic attack and Sookie is so self-absorbed while she flips through Fellowship Anti-Vamp games.

Sam as an owl? Awesome! He said last season he can turn into birds, but they were very complex.

Another thing to remember about Sookie: people can send her "false" thoughts. Rene did it while he was chasing her in the graveyard. I think Hugo sent her some false thoughts.

And I'm glad someone grabbed Barry. Join the story, silly! LOL

I don't read the books (not interested) but I love hearing about them from you guys :)

And thanks for trying out the TruBlood and sharing- good to know ;)

Oh - and just a thought - I don't know why no one thought of this - When Eric pushed Stan up against the wall, I so wanted, so very much wanted the both of them to start making out. Or just a kiss. Just one kiss? How often do we get to see two incredibly good looking, 6'5" men eye to eye, nose to nose in a heated moment that's not professional wrestling? Alan Ball, you had your chance!

You guyz! I cant wait for your vlog every week, best recaps ever for any show. I too think Stan is so hawt, well the actor anyway, big difference from the fake nerd of the books (remember that Pam likes the nerdy type, hee). This was one of the best put together eps yet and I'm glad to see you both did I what I'm going to do with the drink, mix with copious amounts of vodka. Till we meet again next week, love, peace and liquor.

I forgot to mention in the vlog that the "virgin scene" between Hoyt and Jessica... Hoyt mentions it's his "first time (pause) with a girl"!! That pause in there was like a huge siren going off in my head "OMFG Hoyt is bisexual?!! Or he humped watermelons or something?" But no, he was just a shy boy and it was his first time with anyone other than himself. AWWWWwwwwwwwww....

Thank you for all the awesome comments!

A few responses/follows-up:

@Fresca: Yes, Nelsan is amazing, isn't he? The scene with Sam a few eps back when he said barely a word but said EVERYTHING with his eyes was like a master class in "Bitch, don't go there..."

Regarding Andy Bell's resistance to MaryAnn: That is very interesting, because he was goofy-eyed once, wasn't he? Maybe because he's always stumbling in late and not drinking Carl's punch he's somewhat protected? Or maybe she doesn't want him? Heck, maybe he's impotent?

@cj: Yeah, the central murder mystery isn't really a murder mystery anymore because it's so clear how Miss J was killed (the reveal in the book all comes at the very end). They kind of effed that part up, but if it was in the name of saving Lafayette or serving up some orgies, I'm all for it!

@FLu: The beaker is Andy's ... I thought best not to ask too many questions!

@Dawn: HA! OMG you're right - that moment with the board games was pretty hot. I guess I chalked it up to her being too freaked out to deal with him directly and trying a distraction tactic?

And to everyone who's been charmed by Andy's youthful good looks and adorable sass: forreal, right? :)

Thanks, everybody!

There's a lot of speculation about what's "special" about Andy that didn't get him included in the orgy...my interpretation is very mundane: I don't think he's special at all. Yes, we did see Andy go all zombie-like at Merlotte's before when Maryann got people dancing at the bar. I think that with the orgy in Sookie's backyard, Andy just arrived late to the party and didn't get noticed by Maryann until after he'd shot off his gun-- and then it was too late to bother with him, since she'd gone running after Sam. When Tara and Eggs had first arrived on the scene, they weren't automatically pulled in...they were looking around in shock until Maryann saw them there. Seems to me like her influence requires quite a lot deliberateness and concentration. Rather than "Everybody within a 20 foot radius of me will become my minion," it seems more like a selective process: "You will be my minion, and you, and you, and you, and you...."

Of course, I could be completely wrong. But that's all part of the fun. ;-) And I'm still completely clueless about Carl!

Again LOVE you guys and I must catch your Vlog before Sunday every week.

Well I do agree Godric is much better looking in this episode. Sam owl OH! MY! G-D! awesome.

I think Lafayette is starting to slowly come back from his ordeal...I hope soon I do miss his "Pizazz".

Do you think we will see the Pink Lycra soon?? I really hope Sookie comes home and has Eric help her solve the Bon Temps trouble with Maenad..

OOOO! Book 4 is awesome. You must be close to the shower scene..then the great fight scene too.

I have noticed since I have read all 9 books and the short stories that are part of the Universe, that some times there is a dull point in one of the books but the next book has you looking for your socks. Ms Harris's style is like any multi movie franchise there are blah ones then the next is great.

Don't give up on the books. But whatever you do Do not stop your Vlog before the season is over!!!

Andy what are you working on I cannot wait.

A follow up to my anonymous comment after reading what others had to say:
Maybe Andy is immune just because he came in late. Mundane, but things don't always have to be so complicated. Was that in the book? Guess I should read the books again.
I remembered another thing that bugged me. I've been thinking it would be great to introduce Lillith (allegedly the first vampire, the first witch, the first demon, I think) on the show, but they blew that when Daphne said Maryann is Lillith, and Isis, and God, and a Satan worshipper. That woman is busy. No wonder she eats so much, being all those beings must burn a lot of calories. As a writer, I know how it feels when others come in later and play Monday morning quarterback with my work, but I think, from a writing standpoint, that Daphne exposition scene was a bad call. Just say she's a maenad, explain what that is for the few who hadn't already looked it up, and go on with life before Eggs stabs you.
I think last week you said there should be gay couples. Well, Evan Rachel Wood will come on the show toward the end as Sophie-Anne, and she's promised a "hot" lesbian scene. Don't know what she means by that, but I hope she actually has a relationship (maybe Sookie's cousin?). Alan Ball promised us lesbians representation on the show, but so far...not much, though I love Pam.

Hi Andy & Brian!

I've been following your vlogs for a while and as another person commented, TB isn't complete until I see your vlog.

Now... I LOVE ANDY (NOT BELLEFLEUR - YOU [Brian's Andy] SILLY!) so much!!! And I'm a HUGE "Bill" fan too Andy!!!

However, I do think Eric has a lil sumthin sumthin... I can't WAIT to see Andy every week!!!! xoxoxoxo (Sorry Brian.. he's just SO ADORABLE!!!!!)

I'm TOTALLY WITH BRIAN on wanting and ERIC/LAFAYETTE ... ummm... SOMETHING! Anything! Lafayette is my favorite character and I WOULD LOVE to see them two "together".

Okay.. I'm also going to get a lot of crap for this... but I can't stand SOOKIE!!! UGGGGG! Maybe that's a strong statement. She's just so ...... ummm.... dumb.

Dear Ronnie,

What can I say? WOW! You are too kind. Thank you for your flattering comments... Truly, I am blushing.

However, I must ask you to try and keep the focus on the show. I know it's tough to do with my impossible "adorability" factor... *sigh* In actuality Brian and I picked lots to see who would wear the "adorability pants" in this vlog... and I guess I got lucky? Hmmm... In my opinion Brian was always the one wearing those pants!

And now I would like to officially take the time to say a huge mofo dose of kudos to Brian who takes many hours of his time to actually produce this crazy show. I am but merely a player in his mad, bad and dangerous to know master plan. He is the true genious behind all of this home-cooked madness!

Thanks again to ALL of you for your generous support... not only for our vlog, but for supporting such a creative and wonderful show that we can all get excited about and loose ourselves in for an hour each week!

(commence thunderous applause!)

You may not like the make up and the hair in the 1920s flashbacks but it wasn't done badly at all. That was an accurate portrayal of the look back then. The 1920’s were a time where women showed that they were liberated from the way they applied their makeup. Thin eyebrows were fashionable in the 20s. As was the the hair and makeup style they used in the show.
