Hey there, Makers, Baby Vamps, and everything in between! It’s time for another unsolicited round of boozed-up True Blood commentary courtesy of Andy and myself. Topics tackled this week: Vampire shopping! Salami veils! Dead Pelts! Terrible toddlers! Cat ladies! Enjoy!
Note: No cat t-shirts were harmed in the making of this video.

Wasn’t that a Possum in the tree, harking back to Ms. Jeannette and Lettie Mae’s exorcism (of sorts).
Getting to the nitty gritty, when Vamps have sex do they cum blood? If so wouldnt that have been a messy mess between Salome’s legs? blech.
I think they just cough out a bit of dust. Cleanup’s a snap!
That’s a real dry run.
Me again, sorry is there an edit function? Anyways, didn’t you think that Salome made Steve, she seemed so very proud of him? Either her or NanRIP.
Ah – good call! Salami’s veils may very well have parted for Steve.
I’m predicting a romance in the future for Pam & Tara, what to you think?
I’m so glad you guys are back this season. Woo-Hoo! Salami – that bee-yatch is definitely Saguinitas and completely undermining Roman! She turned Nora and she wants to recruit Bill and/or Eric but for now she’ll just use ‘em to find the daily-news-guest-anchor Russell!
Loved the recap! On who turned Steve… I think it might be Salami. Steve said to Jason, I woke up with a strange woman that ran away. He would know if it was Nan, Right?
I also think I know who dug up Russell….. and it wasn’t Pam! She is way to loyal to Eric.
But there is a king that’s not! Who is still pretty pissed at a certain Viking for playing hide the salami with a fairy… Just guessing though. (and hope it’s him). Loved the inhuman punching bag Lorena, LOL .
My question for the Ahthoritaay is .. Who will be the actual first person Tara makes a meal of?
Will it be one that her Mama Pam makes for her? Or should I say Glamours for her.?( not including Sook or Lala)cause she didn’t get to REALLY eat.)
Can’t wait for next weeks recap, Love you Guys!
Yay Recap! And of course, that Talbot frangrance will always be a classic
I could get behind Salami… err Salome as the one who turned Newligan, or some other minion of the Authority. I’m still not sure what side she’s really on… and if Nora was just giving a fake confession to save Eric… hmm twistyness may occur, if you can handle some more time with the authoritAY… although if Russell ends up back at the Authority HQ, I have a feeling things will get a bit more exciting… do you think she’ll try the Salami trick on him? Roman might have to take that one
I think whoever dug up Russell is someone we haven’t met yet… because really, the vamps were all busy with Witchy business when he was set free, and we know Alcide can’t glamour, much less glamour his own employees…
My stars! I just discovered your blog a couple of weeks ago and I am so happy that I did… the very first Blood Work webisode I watched had me laughing so hard my roommates knocked on my door to make sure I was alright.
Anyways, you guys made many great points tonight, as always. One thing that struck me was the discontinuity error you pointed out with regard to Tara’s memory of Debbie’s murder. I’m usually more than ready to suspend my sense of disbelief for True Blood, but I’ve been noticing a lot of this kind of sloppiness in season 5 so far, that affects plot coherence and, as you all pointed out, the important issue of character development. For example, the writers seem to have had some willful amnesia about the major changes Eric went through last season in order to thrust him virtually unchanged into this authority plot. Also, if Eric’s all “whatever, Sookie!” then why is he still mad at Pam? I don’t know… maybe I’m being overly scrupulous.
So, I do have a question for you guys to potentially answer on air (plz, plz, plz!). In both the SVM and TB, hair has played a key role in defining characters and character arcs (รก la vampires predilections for brushing Sookie’s hair in the books and Bill finally shaving the sideburns in season 4 of the TV series). I’ve noticed a lot of hair changes this season, and my question for you is this: who has the best hair so far in season 5? My vote goes to anybody but Sookie, who really seems in need of a deep conditioning treatment or something to restore the buoyancy and natural texture of her blonde hairz.
Oh and one more thing (related to discontinuity and Rev. Steven): how would Newlin — in his role as “the new Nan Flanigan” — be able to spin the story of his turning. He has to give some explanation for how he became vampire (it seems like one of the first things interviewers would ask), but if what he told Jason was true, I don’t see how he could neatly package a believable story about converting from Fellowship of the Son to Vampire Authoritay that didn’t involve some kind of brutal vampiric behavior.
Loved the recap as always! You guys are the most consistently entertaining/witty reviewers so I definitely appreciate your not taking a week off! That techie girl from Napoleon Dynamite seems like a really good addition to the show. She played a similar character in Veronica Mars, which you guys might like, despite its run on the CW.
The Eric-Pam origin scenes are quickly becoming my favorite, making me wish the show had more like these. Maybe episodes featuring Godric and Eric gallivanting across Europe (hanging with the Medicis, witnessing Rasputin’s death) or Nora’s origin. There just seems like a lot of story to tell with how many years this show’s vampires have between them. Mostly, I just really miss Godric and would really appreciate seeing him back on the show in any capacity the writers can come up with.
My question is: do you think the show could sustain more flashbacks without losing its momentum and connection to Bon Temps? Not quite as many as LOST had, but much more than True Blood is currently doing.
I was so happy to see Mac!
There were a few things that popped out at me. The post sex scene with Eric and Pam was very reminiscent to the sex dream Sookie had in “I Will Rise Up”. The directors weren’t the same so it had to be intentional, right? It’s interesting to see the differences between the women in the same situation.
Also Salome is definitely not how she described herself. She is the perfect adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s “Salome”. Which brings me to my Question for the Authority (which may have already been done): What literary character would you like to see as a vampire in True Blood or even just appear in True Blood?
To question your Authoritaay: If Quinn is ever going to be introduced into the world of True Blood, who would you have play him? Would you even throw him into the mix at all?
Nice recap guys! I have been watching you all since season 1 and I am so glad you’ve been able to continue this season. (Also your recaps of GoT is hilarious on AfterElton) Anyways… I have a question to your Authoritay: What has been your favorite vamp or human death on the show? Personally Marianne was awesome mostly because it meant we would never see her again! but I also loved when Eric stuck it (literally) to Talbot. Keep up the good (blood)work!
I guess I should say supe or human death since we’ve had all sorts kick the bucket!
I’m pretty sure Roman made Steve Newlin. If you watch the episode again, pay close attention to the exchange between Roman and Steve. Roman actually says “that’s why I made you”. That crap about a woman turning him and running away was just a sob story he played on Jason to get him to look at him.
I thought he said the same thing, but when I rewatched it sounded more like “that’s why I need you”. My money is on Nan being Steve’s maker. She would have glamoured him to forget that he knew her. Then Nan was gooed, of course, my timeline might be off. Hopefully we’ll find out this season who’s his daddy (or mommy).
You’re right Juicy, he does say need, not made. I had to turn it way up, he says it with such a thready voice. I guess we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out for sure if it was Nan.
We need to come up with a good banana-flan shenanigans for Steve Newlin…. stewin’ hooligan? I suck at rhyming.
I am disappointed we haven’t gotten much Russell yet. I thought he was going to be the big bad this year!
Agreed that Salome is totally playing both sides against the middle.
I much preferred Meloni’s tittays to Salome’s. I can’t believe you both picked Eric over Roman (despite his kreepy korner status).
Witch bucket question: In book 5 they introduce Quinn. Would you like to see that happen on the show???
Glad your back this season! BTW I can’t find episode 2′s video???
It’s there!
