Trailer Trash: “Curse of Chucky” (2013)

Has there been a doll-shaped hole in your heart since the last installment of the Child’s Play franchise? If so, you’re in luck, because the trailer for the new Curse of Chucky has just premiered. Written and directed by openly gay, secretly fabulous series creator Don Mancini, Curse looks to bring the bite back to everybody’s favorite Good Guy doll after the franchise veered into horror-comedy territory with the last few films (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

See what you think, then join me after for discussion:

Okay, first off, I’m kind of digging the classic slasher film vibe they have going on (lots of shadows, storms, a dark house). It’s also interesting that the movie appears from the trailer to have a principally female cast… including Chucky! Seriously, is that Ellen Page? Not that I’m complaining, I loved her in Juno. Anyway, it’s always great to see our favorite Cabbage Patch from Hell getting into trouble, and I’ll definitely be checking out the film when it premieres on VOD on Sept. 24th. (Sorry, no theatrical run. Frowny-face.) You?
