CampBloodComics digest: “True Blood” comics, “The Mystery at CampBlood” continues, and more!

new True Blood comic cover from IDW

Hi, everyone – Andy here. I’ll be popping in every now and then to let you know all the new things afoot at sister-site CampBloodComics.com.

First off, we are proud to present the newest addition to The Mystery at CampBlood! I know there hasn’t been a whole lot of mystery up to this point, but hang in there, kids! It takes a while to build up… kind of like a roller coaster clanking up the ramp. Rest assured that there’s plenty of mystery, monsters, and mayhem around the bend. (Remember that a new episode of The Mystery at CampBlood is posted by noon every Wednesday!)

Heard about the True Blood comic book? No, I’m not talking about the one done as a promo for the first season. This is a brand new one from IDW publishing that features several beloved characters from the show. I’m excited to say that Lafayette made the cut!

Other characters include Sookie, Bill, Jason, Tara, and Eric. Apparently this 6-issue mini-series is about a nasty ghost that forces them all to air out their dirty laundry. No, not dirty underwear – dirty secrets!

Seems this ghost thrives on making folks feeling ashamed. Knowing Laffy’s character, he’s probably got dibs on the dishiest dirt. I’m a bit confused about Eric being there. He’s certainly full of pride, but can Eric even feel shame? Really? Alan Ball and some of his writers from the TV show have their fingers in the project as well. Maybe they’re planning on fessing up who laid that egg last season? I know I’d be proud of that…

Take a look at the cover art for the first issue by J.Scott Campbell (remember him from Wildstorm/ Gen 13, anyone)? I appreciate the attempt at trying to capture the sex appeal of the characters, but I feel some of the characters look awkward in his style.

artwork by David Messina

I have greater faith in the book’s interior artist, David Messina. His work for various Angel comic titles (also from IDW publishing) captures a better likeness of the actors. However, I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing Bill’s coif have a slight upgrade. (Ugh, those bangs!) Above, check out a page from Angel Vol.3 “Ald Lang Syne”. Note Messina does a fair job capturing the likeness of actors David Boreanaz (Angel) and James Marsters (Spike).

Or why not get out to your local comic shop and take a look at some of Messina’s latest work? Check out Angel #32 – it’s new this week! Take a few minutes (or hours) wandering around. Ogle old Buffy-related comic titles, or search for something new. But be aware that Wednesday is when all the new comics are on display, so you may have to rub elbows with legions of hard core fans.

Hmmm… maybe you can score a date for Friday night after all?

For more info on these titles and for other gay horror comics goodies, be sure to check out CampBloodComics. Stay bloody, and see you next time!
