“Food Party” gets horrific with “Nosferathu” and “Cannibal Holiday”

I’ve been checking out the batshit bizarre Food Party for a while now, and more often than not find a reason to chuckle at least once or twice per 15-minute episode. This hipster “cooking show” (used in the loosest sense possible) stars Thu Tran as a self-centered, vaguely sociopathic chef who lives in a cardboard house filled with creepy puppets and even creepier live people (Peanut Butter Jerry, anyone?) who help her with recipes … when they aren’t ending up in those recipes themselves.

This season (the show is in its second run on IFC) the show has been running with the horror themes, with recent episodes featuring an awesomely strange vampire storyline (complete with a tiny little German boy and a duck-in-peril) and a pretty disgusting extended cannibalism gag.

Thu Tran and friends

The show is truly a labor of love, with nearly everything on screen being handmade and a clearly devoted cast and crew making loony fun out of everyday crap. The vibe is distinctively DIY (some people may balk at Thu’s obvious lack of TV training, but I think it adds to the charm) but this season’s improved budgets and HD presentation have allowed the show to turn out some genuinely stunning visuals, particularly in the horror eps.

Below, you can enjoy a trailer for the vampire episode (“Nosferathu”), and clips from the cannibal ep that aired last night (“Cannibal Holiday”)  should be online soon at the official site.

Enjoy…

IFC airs new Food Party eps back-to-back every Tuesday night.
