It’s that time of the week, Campers!
Yes, we’re back with the penultimate episode of Blood Work Too, the second season of our True Blood video recap series where we discuss the hit vampire series, play with dolls and cats and generally make total asses of ourselves.
This week we’re a bit down because … well, because this last episode suuuuuucked. But rather than let it ruin our pre-Labor-Day warmup, we decided to catch some sun and play some Yahtzee. Join us as we enjoy tropical drinks and complain about the shit going down in Bon Temps!

C’mon guys, Jason and Andy were great, dancing with the sheriff? Jason had great lines, I know it’s not a comedy show but it was pretty funny. Eric in drag, in Lafayettes mind (Alexander seems to get in drag often in his movies too, he’s so purty). I wanted to know what Carl was before he got got. The queen was too stupid tho, I agree, and where was Siegbert and his axe? Hadley wasnt a bimbo, she was loved by Sophie-Anne, so all that was very disappointing to me.
Love you guys, and I agree so much on what you said. Sophie-Anne was a tragedy! Personally, I hope for the “Bill is missing” cliffhanger, maybe coupled with the “Jason is missing” one. Bottom line, if Alan Ball would go back to the source material and stop trying to be “original,” everything would be all right.
Keep it up guys, you make my WEEK with Blood Work Too!
womp womp womp… totes agree that the episode sucked…
they built up suspense in ep 9 and 10 and then killed it in 11.. i really seriously hope that the final is better…
but it’s soooooo past following anything in the books right now!
AND OOHH, i’m confused- why if maryanne needs a supernatural being like a shifter for her sacrifice why the hell didnt she use daphnee?
*sigh*
whatever sookeh moment- the writers: whole episode
xoxo
Ugh! This episode was downright awful. The worse of the series and my thoughts exactly on ‘Sophie Ann’, I was begging for her scenes to be over. After having to wait 2wks they better come good. And to think Alan Ball wrote this episode?!
Although I, too, have to agree with you both regarding this weeks episode, I don’t think it was as bad as it looks, upon one viewing. I remember back to the end of the first season, and how they began to blend storylines from Living Dead in Dallas, book 2, into the mix. Similarly, I think they are doing exactly that with this season. I found the episode to be interesting subtle. Everyone was so ‘frenzied’ that you had to pay attention to the subtleties of what was happening, and this may have been missed by many, including myself, upon a single viewing. Thus said, the following is a list of positives that i have found for the episode.
1. BILL is growing his chest hair back (after obviously man or vamp scaping between the first and second season)!!! Sorry, i had to say it. Chest Hair revolution coming! Okay, to get serious…1. The interesting relationship with Hadley, Bill and Sophie-Ann. Bill obviously knew that Hadley was there. Yet never told Sookie. Sophie-Ann is obviously aware of what Bill is doing in Bon Temps. (This is directly related to what happens and transpires in books 3 and 4).
2. Sophie-Ann herself. In the books, shes a teenager. I loved that she was so bored that she plays Yahtzee lol. I loved that she said she hasn’t enjoyed men since the Eisenhower Years lol. The way she held court with her ‘food’ was like Madeline Kahn in history of the world Part 1. “No, no no no no no no, YES!!!”. I think that the fact that she’s so unqueen like, makes her a bit interesting. she has to be ubervamp powerful to be queen, so it’s interesting..3…LOVED that Lettie morphed into Eric in Lafayettes mind! Thank god hes not a drag queen. also, the revelation that he, too, has the dreams like Sookie…and the notion of Eric/Lettie telling him that he’s going to become a vampire. 4. Sookie’s House of Horrors. Hello, the “its a present” finger moment, the man in the sink fondling intestines, the coroner on the floor, the hairy man upstairs (yes, i have a body hair fetish)…this was creepier than any horror film we’ve seen this past year!!!!! 5. The return of Pam, albeit briefly. I just love her. And her outfit…Fierce! 6. Sookie hitting back. From Letti, to the coroner, it was great!…7. The look on Jessica’s face after Hoyt and his mom leaves. They possibly have pushed her over the edge. 8. The confrontation between Hoyt and Mamma in the kitchen. Truths revealed. Heartbreaking for Hoyt….
All in all, yes, not much Action happened, but I think this was about character, and innuendo. I don’t know, i kind of liked it.
I’ll stop rambling now. Keep up the amazing work!!!!
Hey guys, I’m from Brazil and I really like your blog and blood work too! I have some friends that started to watch true blood just to watch your videos after it! It’s very funny!
About the episode, I totally agree with you, they are loosing the focus of the show, I loved the first season with all the vampires stuffs, but now they are just talking about Maryann and she is terrible! I am anxious for the season finale to see if she will be gone for good! I realy don’t want her back on the third season, I want vampiresssss back!
xoxo
from brazil
I think your on the right track guys about Daphnie laying the egg, what if its Sams baby in the egg??? Jason was asking Andy if he thought that Sam could turn into a chicken and lay his own egg! – just a random thought.
I agree about the queen…..boring…….but the episode did have alot of great laughs from Jason, Eric & Pam and Arlene.
This episode was okay for me it was neither here or there it was “frenzied”. I think it was one maybe the only episode that the actual title fit what was going on. This episode did have a lot of things going on and just like men or women you had to read between the lines for information. Like Tara bring Maryann there was cool; Maryann thinking that the voodoo lady was her ticket to godhood, which tied in what Sophie Ann was saying, when she got around to say it. The whole Sam thing with Eric and the kids was weird. Is it me or did Eric seem more of the “Godric like predator ” from the books? The confrontation with Eric and Bill was a little weird like this situation had happened before. Eric with Latte May’s dress on was funny. Alex is such a good actor. Even with the dress on I still wanted to jump his bones. And all the chicken references did lead up to the egg bomb. I like how you are seeing Jason grow up; he didn’t take pussy when handed to him. He is thinking more. The bit between him and Andy in the truck was actually very mature. What was with Sophie Ann knowing Bill’s busnazz anyway. And Bill not being fazed by Sookie’s cousin being there. It tied back to the firsts episode of the season when Sookie ask Bill is there anything else he needed to tell her. I think that will be the turning point for Sookie to Eric in season 3 or one of many. Well I’m getting long here. I just want to say I loved you guys since ep2so1. Keep up the Blood work.
)
Jason was his great, dumbass self, although it seemed a bit much, considering he hasn’t been AS stupid, lately. He goes from the occassional stupid remark to suddely walking into trees, talking about Sam being a chicken and having sex with another dog (though that was funny), and not knowing if something was in the bible or the constitution. Even for Jason, that’s a lot of dumbass for one episode.
Oh, and Evan Rachel Wood was horrible. I’ve seen her in other stuff and she’s not a bad actress, usually, but she was like a high school play.
I’ll watch the episode again during the week, so my opinion about some things might change (I didn’t like episode 10, but I began seeing things to like after watching it a few times), but the one thing that really pissed me off was the fact that Maxine Fortenberry showed me that I was wrong in thinking these black eyed peas were out of their minds and unaware of what they were doing. I’d thought they were all empty vessels acting without thought, but Maxine showed, when she told Hoyt all about his dad’s suicide, that the person is still in there, they’ve just lost all sense of holding back their true selves. Look at Jane Bodehouse. Tara said something to her in the first season about coming to Merlottes and getting drunk in hopes that some man will make a pass at her. She gets black eyed, and that horny, slutty part of herself is what’s amped to 11. Maxine revealed truths she’d held back from Hoyt because her upbringing said you don’t talk about those things. So then there’s Tara. She trashed Gran’s room and personal belongings after letting Gran and Sookie’s house get trashed. I’ve thought all season that, once Tara realizes what she’s done, she’ll owe Sookie a MAJOR apology. But now I’m thinking that this black eyed thing has let loose Tara’s deep seeded hatred for Gran and Sookie. Remember when she told Sookie she wanted to cut off her long blonde hair when they were kids? I think that was a little taste of what Tara really feels toward Sookie and Gran. I’m sure Rutina Wesley is a very good actress, being Juliard trained and all, and I know Alan Ball is one of the best writers around, but I’ve grown to hate Tara and I don’t know how that’ll change now.
By the way, Andy, great line about Maryanne having something up her ass all season. Great vlog. Glad to know I’m not the only one who was disappointed.
So how will Sam escape being sacrificed? Sophie-Anne said they don’t like dead vampire hearts, so the thought came to me last night that Bill might turn Sam so he won’t be a good sacrifice anymore, and that’s how he outsmarts Maryanne. Why not? Look at the mess they’ve already made.
As far as who laid the egg goes, looks like “True Blood” did with that episode. But why didn’t Sookie just smash the thing before Lafayette came along?
I have to agree with Just….
I thought the episode had so many hilarious moments in it that I found myself laughing most of the way through it. But OMG I will be soooo glad when they get past this Maryann thing. I am just so tired of it & I can’t see where they are ever going to go with it. I’m ready for the weres!
I loved Eric’s interaction with Arlene’s kids – those little “teacup humans” and all of Jason’s stupidity – he and Andy are perfect together – neither of them the sharpest tools in the shed! I also loved Bill’s nervousness around the Queen – facial expressions were priceless!
All in all I enjoyed the episode but I think the big event will be in 2 weeks when it will finally bring an end to Maryann and her nastiness & lead on to another direction with the weres.
Keep up your good work with your reviews – I look forward to those as much as each new episode of TB!
“Who laid the egg?” Alan Ball did.
I don’t know. Maybe Alan Ball should have hired some Buffy alumni writers. They know how to tell season long arcs where plot is important.
Alan Ball just seems to be incredibly unfocused here. He thought he could pull the story out in the end – but he didn’t.
Pam was misused in this episode. Wouldn’t she have made a much better choice for a season long arc than MaryAnn? Yes, she would have.
I fear you are correct about this last episode but PLEASE do not say they are jumping the Sookie Shark. That’s the kiss of death for the entire show.
Re: Cory J I read somewhere that Pam is doing the DVD extras for this season, and she’s going to reveal a lot there.
I disagreed with you guys last week (2 weeks ago?) where you thought it was bad and I thought it was good, I’m on board with you this time. Definitely some rotten eggs this week.
I’ve actually always liked Evan Rachel Wood, but she was pretty terrible in this. However, as awful as she was, to me she had the best suggestion of the episode. When Bill said something about Eric, she said “Why don’t you two just fuck and get it over with. I could watch. I enjoy watching two men together.” Me, too, Sophie Ann. Me, too.
I think that Sookie is going to be the vessel. Maryann’s “what are you?” definitely made her seem to be what SophieAnn said maenad’s look for (strongest and strangest supernatural, or a new and unusual component to their recipe). My guess is that Maryann gets killed in the finale, after attempting to sacrifice Sookie, Eric coming to the rescue, but Bill delivering the killing blow.
Brian, it was disheartening seeing you so mopey. Don’t lose hope. Every TV show has a sophomore slump.
I just want to say I like the Hunter S. Thompson look, Brian
Ha! That did occur to me while we were shooting. “Can’t stop here … Vamp country!”
Brian the KittenTowel is the cutest thing ever!
Ok, the more I re watch the episode the more I see how bad it was. They really should have casted a teen to play the queen ( the girl from Let the Right one In…hellllloooo kicked ass); I like a campy style of acting but geezy she was really bad.
Ok Tara Tara Tara come on let her go!!!! I use to love Tara but now Im like she can die in the weeks and I would not care!
Lafyette and Pam were my favs,There are just giving us Eric in Drag because they’ll never do a dream sequence, still not cool!
Sookie on so many levels ugh get it together!
Bill/Eric they look like they are gonna laugh at each other, Eric has no desire for Sookie he wants to use her for his benefit, wtf was up with asking Sam to give Sookie to him!! Pam’s eye roll when Eric said that was my exact feeling!!
Sookie/Eric doesnt not work right now maybe later on when they have chemistry…..not! Sorry Team Eric ( I like Eric not as much as some people do)
If this keeps up It will “Jump the Sook”
Fellas –
Keep the faith! Yes ERW was awful in a wooden-Chloe-Sevingy-delivery way, but this too shall pass.
I’m a little concerned that this Allan Ball ep was so all over the place – since he is the master of the show’s creative vision, but I am willing to hold out hope that all will come out right in the end. There were some real tonal issues in this episode also, normally I’d lay the blame on the Director, but Minahan did 1.5 and 2.1 which were both standouts – so I am at a loss over who to point the finger at.
As for my prediciton for episode 12 – I bet MaryAnn’s plot is wrapped up by the 40/45 min mark, and they do a “several weeks later” jump-ahead a la last year. Charlaine Harris has been widely quoted as saying she filmed a busy bar scene with Sam for this episode, so that leads me to think the bar will be cleaned up and ready for patrons again soon.
Seriously, Brian, the kitty towel almost made me feel better about the time I spent watching Frenzy.
Thanks for another wonderful review.
I just wanted to add that I enjoy watching Bill and Eric interact but their pissing contest(while amusing) is getting a tad bit old. And God help us if we have another season of watching them go back and forth like that.
However, it was nice to hear someone call Bill out for giving Sookie his blood so early on without fully explaining the attraction that it would cause.
Plus Eric’s hair looked so cute.
Umm… yeah, the egg. There are no words and no excuses for that.
I really liked this episode! Maybe I’m just a fangbanger, but this is by far one of the best shows on television…this show is like sex or pizza-even when it’s not great, it’s still pretty good!
initially after watching TB i am impervious to anything horrible that comes up during the show because after a week long wait I am so amped to see it! but when I take a step back and take another look at he epi (and this has happened quite frequently after ‘timebomb’) i see it for what it really is: A HUGE DISATER!
yeah, it has it’s memorable parts (mostly ones involving lafeyette, andy, jason, or eric) but as a whole, they have really let them self go…..and in a bad way.
if you go to hbo.com and look at the message boards, you can see the tongue lashing alot of viewers have given to the writers/AB.
word of advice AB for season 3: try following the books a little more. as campy and crazy as they are, they have good plot developments and mrs. harris’s execution of her take on the supernatural world is amazing. there is a reason why you wanted to make a series off of the book. go back to that reason…..no, RUN BACK TO THAT REASON! otherwise you will not be seeing a season 4, i promise you that.
brian, don’t fret…..don’t ‘jump the sook’ before the last show. who knows, they might just wow us (crossing my fingers). andy, thanks for trying to shed light on the FEW redeeming qualities of TB. you are such a trooper! if anything, know this, you guys have a legion of dedicated CAMPBLOOD fans, including me
btw, i have a new found zachary quinto fetish (due to star trek) and i was thinking about diving into heros….but…i saw your ‘first ‘heros’, now this’. what does THAT mean???!!!!
Where shall I begin? Well… at the beginning, I suppose. “Heroes” was an amazing show when it began. I mean: A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The story was gripping and so were the characters. Everyone had an interesting angle and it was a joy watching the show each week. Then something “happened”. Somewhere just between the middle and 3/4 of the way thru (from what I can remember) everything hit the fan. The characters started to become annoying, and the story just fell apart. It ended with THE WORST FINALE ever. In fact I HATED the show soo friggin much after the Season 1 finale, that I regretted ever watching the show. It was just ridiculous, and that’s all I have to say. *snap!*
I feel like the writers wasted and oppertunity concerning Pam’s outfit this week.
Sequins and big hair, and all she gets to do is hate on kids? For shame, Alan Ball.
Helllo! That’s what I think, too! I was soo happy and excited to see Pam in all her glory, but then *POOF* it was over. I sure hope she comes back next season in a big way.
I’m hoping her and Eric’s outfits get gradually more and more fierce/flamboyant.
They have to be spending that Fangtasia money on something.
Aww….poor Brian. So heart-broken. I am too, after watching this episode. Although you know, they’ve been stupid for the past two episodes now, running around independently without any sort of game plan or communication. For a while I thought I was watching Lost! These people have cell phones, don’t they? Why don’t they bloody well USE them! Only happenstance has prevented Jason, Sam, and Andy from getting killed multiple times over. And now Lafayette has gone all black-eyed, as well. And the queen is……okay, I just won’t go there. Suffice to say, this episode got a big 4 Grace Joneses from my end! I actually don’t mind waiting two weeks until the finale, and will hope against hope that the show redeems itself then.
Oh, and I love your tiki drinks, and thanks for the name-check.
We did name-check you, didn’t we?! You are always in our fridge – like Pam and Lafayette!
Ditto guys, ditto.
I live in Asia so I have to get my TB fix through less-than-legal means *wink!* and this week’s episode was HARD to find. As I was kicking, screaming, and begging in one of the message boards, some of the people said the following things:
- “SAVE YOURSELF! It’s not even worth it to watch!”
- ” (the link) hasn’t been put up yet because it sucked major ass”
- “Don’t. Watch. It. Trust me, you’re not missing anything”
… which I ignored because bad TB is still TB and I was having withdrawals.
After I got hold of the epi, I was blown away… BY THE GRAND SCALE OF EPIC FAIL.
I agree, this episode will replace the pilot episode as TWOP’s Worst Of The Best: Worst Episode of Great TV Shows. What was Alan Ball thinking? His staff writers have raised the bar so high in the previous episodes, and when it was his turn to show us his game, he did THIS? I’m… I JUST CAN’T WITH YOU!
ERW totally destroys the Sophie-Anne everyone hoped to see. I know that Charlaine Harris said that she and Alan Ball pretty much stay away from each others’ works, but JUST THIS TIME I hope she would give him a call and deliver a butt spankin’ for destroying The Queen. I was sad when Sophie-Anne… eh… um… (SPOILER!) bid adieu in book 8, but I would probably throw a HALELUJAH PRAISE BABY JESUS party when ERW’s Sophie-Anne gets killed off.
Don’t get me started about the egg. Don’t. I’m considering to inflict “Chris Brown’s Amnesia” therapy to self to erase that memory, so when the egg reappears again in the next episode I’ll just gonna go “Wow. How did that happen? Wow. I mean, WOW.”
Oh Tephy, the laughs I had while reading your post made watching Frenzy almost worth it. I so agree with you.
haha no wonder I had such trouble trying to find a torrent for that episode.
makes sense now lol
Btw I agree 100000000% that Tara summoning Maryann DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL. This theory came up during one of my TB discussion with my office mate and we both dismissed it because it just doesn’t make any sense. DOES. NOT. Alan Ball obviously disagreed, and look how sucky this turned out.
Found Eric’s pink spandex!
Is that for REAL? Cuz if it is… I could VERY easily become an Eric fan.
I wish it were real Andy. It’s the closest will ever get to the pink spandex, though.
wasn’t he wearing something like that to the book orgy
he went to with sookie?
cuz I remember reading that and thinking god damn I hope that outfit is in an episode.
Watching your (always great) recap tonite gave me a sinking feeling as you validated some of my worst fears about the show: that maybe it’s zaniness can’t sustain itself.
In general w/ TB I don’t hold out for logic or subtlety, but there were a lot of “Whatever, Logic” moments in 2.11: After Tara escaped why not pick up the phone and contact Jason, or Sam, or Hoyt and find out what’s going on with them? Also Jason, Andy, and Sam having time to mop up the bar but no time to check back in w/ the most powerful other people they know: Sookie and Bill (they didn’t know he was MIA) was a head scratcher. Why not seek refuge in Bill’s house and plan effectively from the safest place in town that also has a tactical advantage towards ground zero?
ERW’s delivery was bad, but in fairness to her, she WAS saddled with the ultra-lame explanation of all things imagining themselves into existence, and declaring that Maenads are forever waiting for their Great Pumpkin. Meryl Streep would have trouble selling those stinkers!
On the plus side: although weird and unnecessary, I thought Sookie’s encounter with the awful Coroner Mike, Jane Bodehouse, and bathing guy in the sink was CREEP-Y. Also, Jessica’s Carrie-esque rage when Hoyt left was great.
As for the rushing of the Eric-Bill-Sookie triangle – it is being rushed, but all we can really do is hang on and hope they give Bill a visual fighting chance. i.e. ditch the creative vision that has him currently looking like the second coming of the 3 Stooges’ Moe Howard (stiff bangs and grey, powder pallor).
I remain cautiously optimistic the ship will right itself back to 9 or 10 Grace Joneses in the finale. However, if it turns out there is an egg in the bed b/c the guy’s name is “Eggs” and he and it were somehow “imagined into existence” – I am out of here.
ahh! so that explains the egg rofl
There was I beside myself at Pam and her outfit and wham, bam she was gone with some throw away reference to smelling the kids: what a WASTED woman. Let’s hear it for Eric in Lettie’s cotton frock though and how about Maryann getting more and more loop de loo with each passing S02 episode. Agree that Ginger was a stand out this week – she’s such a crack whore treasure for us all to aspire to at age 58. Won’t comment on the Queen ‘cept to wonder what a joyous casting decision it coulda been with Joan Collins and sure she woulda been available. Not quite as savage an overall rating as the guyz but please bring back that loving s01 feelin…
her snarky comments about the brats were pretty epic
Hi A & B !!!!
BRIAN!!! CHEER UP!!!
I felt really bad this week watching you be so disappointed in the show..
It WAS all over the place. I AGREE with MOST of what you both said. But honestly, the scenes with Andy & Jason make watching these episodes worth it!
They are soooooooooooooooooooooooooo funny!!!!
I hate to say this, but I didn’t like the queen as much either. I’ve said before, although I haven’t read the books, I’ve been able to get the comparison from another person who also watches the show with me and who has also read the books. And even NOT knowing the book version of the Queen… she just wasn’t appealing. We wanted a CLAUDIA type. Not THAT young, of course, but that SMART. I understand when you’ve been around for HUNDREDS of years things might be boring to you. But could it also be, if you’ve been around for hundreds of years, something be quite interesting because life is ever changing?
I wanted her to be smart and sexy. Like we THOUGHT Eric was in the beginning.
I still love Bill…. (ANDY PLEASE DON’T BE MAD !!!) but Eric IS bringing sexy back to Bon Temps. WHOA!!! But my heart IS STILL Bill’s.
I also agree with commenters that they are really setting up Eric & Bill for next season. There WILL be a pissin contest between the two. Cause that’s pretty much what it is in the books. And there HAS to be the LOVE TRIANGLE.
I NEVER look forward to season finales (and still am not with TB) HOWEVER PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HURRY UP and kill Maryanne off. GOODNESS. LONGEST STORYLINE EVER! And then they don’t/won’t spend a lot of time on storylines that are WORTH developing.
All in all, although the humor in this week’s (and last week’s) episodes are sooooooooooooooooooooooo worth tuning in, it was all over the place.
And yeah… WTF IS UP WITH THE EGG!!!!
I give this week’s show 7 1/2 GRACE JONES VAMP HEADS. – My biggest disappointment (although TOTALLY predicatable) was Lafayette “turning”. I just with for ONCE that a writer wouldn’t take the EASY/PREDICTABLE way out. Wouldn’t it have been fun if Lafayette had gotten away – SOMEHOW!
WHATEVER SOOKIE – Mine is Sookie going BACK to her house when VAMPIRE BILL made her azz PROMISE NOT to go back to her house! I don’t care HOW brave you THINK you are, you can’t handle everything! Sit your azz down and wait for help! And that’s what they should have made Tara do too. Don’t get me wrong, we’d ALL be ret ta go if someone was hurting or mistreating our loved ones… but GIT A GRIP! Get a frickin plan. Clue. SOMETHING! At least Andy and Jason SEE their calling! LOL
DO BAD THINGS: HMMMMMMMM… This week was hard…. But I have to say.. ERIC. (OMG – I HATE DISAGREEING WITH MY LOVELY ANDY!!!) I LOVE BILL. PPB (period point blank) BUT Eric is just sexy lately!
All in all, although I’m not jumping ship by any means… I think the finale is gonna suck. I just don’t see how they’re going to tie everything together in ONE hour. I’ll bet everyone that they kill off MaryAnne the last 3 mins of the episode, have Bill & Sookie have sex at some point, and then make us all wonder if Sam is really dead. When we ALL know that muthasucka can shift into pretty much anything he wants!!!
I think the fans will be really disappointed. Not like last year when most of us almost riotted when we thought Lafayette got killed off. But because they’re not going to tie it all together and then we’ll be left for a year wondering if Sam turned into the knife or something.
Gosh.. I feel REALLY bad because the last few weeks fans have been so disappointed. I REALLY LOVE THIS SHOW!!! I hope they listen to the fans a bit. I think they can use the books as the road map and do fun things, but do fun things that are INTERESTING and keep us BEGGING for more.
Tooooooooooooo many loose ends. ((((sighin and shakin my head))))
Yay! I immediately thought of Claudia when I read about Sophie-Anne. That’s why I loved her character so much. but whatsherface ruined it
They really should have got a teenager to play the Queen.
WOW. I agree that I don’t like how forced the love triangle already is, and ERW truly sucked as Queen, and the episode was all over the place. But it did have it’s redeeming moments that make TB worth watching. It was a total beatdown to watch this week’s vlog. Honestly, if you accuse the show of jumping the shark because of one mediocre episode, that’s kinda sad.
I have a sneaking suspicion that in two weeks, that finale is going to leave us all breathless. I believe the cliffhanger will be Bill missing, because Alan Ball has said that he is going to adhere to the main plotline of Club Dead, with Alcide, Debbie Pelt, and the Were’s. This will seperate Sookie from Bill for most of the season-YAY-with only pop-in’s from Eric.
I think the main problem for Alan Ball is making the subplots as tight and interesting as the main plot, which he’s skimming the books for. It tied together really well last season but this season the subplot is sinking the ship. But I still believe they will pull it together. I have faith because I love the shit out of this show, and a crappy episode like the one this week is still a billion times better than 85% of everything else on TV.
I don’t mean to come off rude, I was just so disappointed to see you so beat down, Brian. It brought me down, made me sad!!!! Don’t lose faith.
Brian and Andy, I LOVE the vlog! I agree with most of what you said, although I did laugh alot during this episode. But those moments of hilarity were not enough to salvage this episode. One of my favorite things about the books is that they have a great pace and it’s something that I thought has always been missing from the show.
I would write more but I have to go watch Girls Just Want to Have Fun now.
I love your blog and look forward to every single post.
This episode was not good. I think your jump the shark questioning is truly on point. I think it has. Hopefully they can unjump it next season.
As for all the the disdain for Evan Rachel Wood, I truly don’t understand it. She is an actress. And a damn good one at that. The script wasn’t worth a damn, why she is being blamed for it, I’ll never know. Plus if they used an actual teenager, she would change dramatically by next year, and the year after that, and the year after that. An adult actress had to play the role, and maybe all the valley girl-esqe quirks were the writers way of keeping the “teen” alive in her character.
All things aside, they lost me with that egg… I bet it’s a tribble.
roflmao
Sorry Sookie, I couldnt save you from Maryann cuz I had to play Yahtzee.
I agree- this week’s episode was lame.
Where was the eric sex dream?!!?!? Where was the ACTION?!?!
Where was the DEATH OF MARYANN finally!?!?!
awwww I love Humbert!
Speaking of tara’s togs, what the hell is a tog, anyway?
Ugh! I just watched the show again and I have to agree with you. The show was terrible and Evan R Wood was awful. I was embarassed for her. I think they jumped the Sophie Ann.
Let’s hope Alan will Kill her. Her character that is. Wood should not have to die for poor acting but for dating Marilyn Manson she probably needs her head examined.
You know, some of that wooden over the top acting is done by Stephen Moyer also. Maybe that is what Alan Ball wants, over the top, hamming it up acting.
You hush talkin trash about my boy, Stephen Moyer! …else I open up a can of Louisana “whoop *ss”!
Hey, I like Stephen Moyer!
I thought he did a great job acting in the show Starter Wife. I was a big Team Bill fan until my Team Eric sister slapped me upside the head. But that was in the past, I am now a Team Sam fan.
Now, sis tells me that Alex Skarsgard is actually dating Evan R Wood. Erupp… excuse me; that was my dinner trying to come back up.
Marilyn Manson to Alex Skarsgard, she has definately traded up.
That little slattern. Tee-hee.
I think I am looking more forward to your review of next week’s show than the show. Thanks so much.
