For our last episode of Blood Work! Too, we took a tip from MaryAnn (“the Bitch”) and said “yes” to the dress, the Meat Tree, the potted plant hats, and – most importantly – the crazy.
So how did last night’s marriage-happy episode strike us? Were the loose ends (and runny Eggs) suitably dealt with? And of course, what do we think might be next for our drama-plagued Francophiles (Bill and Sookie), service industry members (Lafayette, Terry, Tara, Sam, etc.) and Mountain Dew enthusiasts (Handsome Woman A and Handsome Woman B)?
Join us in the video after the jump for our take on all the nonsense!

Cut Scene from True Blood S01E01
Someone is watching Sookie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQzdS6RnWnU
ooooooo!!!! where did you find that cut scene marko?
is that s’posed to be CLAUDINE!????
see I was left with a dissatisfied taste in my mouth after watching this final episode, yes it was good they tied up loose ends and all but it wasn’t anything amazeballs… i couldnt help but want more..
i had the theory that it was lorena who took bill as well, but in cohorts with some of the characters in Book 3, think Debbie.. but that still doesn’t explain Erics whole “I’ll take care of Bill Compton myself” unerotic make out scene with Sophie Anne, ugh- still think ERW was shit.. they should replace her with Bryce Dallas Howard.. similar look, much better actress.
I LOVE the fact you think Ryan should play Alcide.. *SHIVERS* that’s so HAWT!!! (he’s one of my fav characters too)
Thanks for the laughs boys, I’ll miss you until next season!!
I love you guys! I so look forward to your recaps. I will miss you in the offseason but will continue to visit campblood.org in the meantime!
Thank you so much Brian and Andy for all your wonderful recaps. They made watching True Blood even more fun to watch!
I’ve subscribed to your blog through Google, so you can count on me checking in daily!
Cheers!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
You two are the loves of my True Blood life, well except ERIC of course. You MUST come back next year with your show. I will throw a fit and sit on my curb while throwing rocks and old hooker panties at children if you don’t. Yeah, I live in a bad part of town.
if you do so can I join in? that sounds fun
you guys are freaking hilarious!!! love the blog, love the “i wanna do bad things” segment, the recaps and fun recreation of scenes!!!! keep it up
What will I do without you guys until next season?! I also wanted to mention that if you haven’t read the later books then you should if you want to find out about Sookie and her supernatural powers and why Jason was not able to fight Maryann’s influence. Please consider just doing random blogs throughout the next several months so we do not have to quit cold turkey!
btw…you two are so cute!!!!
WOrk it!!! lol
Great recap guys!
Regarding your “guess” on Lorena as Kidnapper. We all know this show treads lightly on the path of the book’s storylines. I know Lorena’s behind Bill’s disappearance; however, what sense did it make for her to hold him hostage this season? Do you think that may be the writers’ way of interpreting that part of the original storyline, and reason to deter away from it into their own? It seems really obvious that Eric is behind it, but there’s been plenty of theorizing going on amongst fans online thinking this might be the writers’ way of introducing the weres.
At the moment, I think it is Eric who arranged for Bill to get abducted. But I think Bill will end end up in Lorena’s arms, too. Eric knows how much she wanted Bill and I bet Eric thinks that delivering Bill to Lorena’s place is the best way to get him out of the picture.
Remember when we last saw Lorena, she was mad as all hell that Bill gave her the boot for good. She seems very vengeful and I could see her claiming ownership of him still. I think she’s gonna tie up and torture poor Billy boy to break down his resistance enough to take Lorena back.
I love you guys.
Well, first THANK GOD WE HAD A WEEK OFF FROM TB! It did alot of good since we all were a little strung out from the supreme uncool craziness of the show. The absence made the last show enjoyable and help re-establish our enthusiam/anticipation for TB, in my opinion. With that said, the final show was remarkably better than the previous few piles of dung offered to us BUT I still had my qualms. The biggest was the mechanical-robot clean up of all the problems of Bon Temps. The death of Maryann was SPECTACULAR (didn’t see THAT coming!) but everything going back to normal so quickly is a little un-nerving. I think after a season of orgies, drugs, and hunter’s suoffle a quick lets-act-like-nothing-happened-and-not-investigate-into-the-fact-our-little-po’dunk-town-looks-like-pledge-week-at-a-university is a little unbelievable for lil’ ol’ me. but anyways, it could have been worse i guess….and we all know thats true!! Best wishes/hopes for the next season!
Second, I WILL MISS BLOODWORK SO F’N MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know this is crazy (or maybe not) but i enjoyed watching you guys more than TB this season. You had me either nodding in agreement or laughing myself into tears all season, sometimes at the same time. Andy and Brian, thank you so much for being our tour guide on this wacky trip to hell and back! You both are very entertaining, immensely creative, and above all FIERCE!!!! ok, my lips are puckered out from all that ass kissing…….
<3 your loyal fan
ps. good AB interview with EW about this season and the next: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=408526381&blogId=510151631
oh, here is a recap that will have you in hysterics: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=408526381&blogId=510308289
That was funny. I loved this part…
Pro: Bill sends Sookie a dress with a letter!!!!!!! He writes like he talks!!!!! Gigantic I’s and odd statements. Do you think he writes like this everywhere like household notes.
“JESSICUH We are in great need of Draino. I tire of clogged showahs. Can you collect some upon your next visit to the shop? I would also very much like some old spice red stripe if that’s not too much to aaaask. Eric is evil. Vampire Bill.”
WAHAHAHAHA!!!
Okay, that’s some funny shit.
Fellas, no week of True Blood is complete until I’ve seen your Blood Work recap. (You even inspired me to put “The Eyes of Laura Mars” on my Netflix queue.)
Keep up the awesome work!
PS: I’m curious if you think Alan Ball will include the highly disturbing sexual assault of Sookie in the car trunk from Book 3? That seems like it would be hard for the character perpetrating said act to recover in the eyes of the viewing audience.
I hope he doesn’t include it- reading it was bad enough
oh I am so excited to season 3 and to see the Weres!!! this show is awesome it has it all, drama, comedy, horror, great diologue, memorable characters and intense plot development!!!
Like others, thanks for taking us into your home and doing your recaps Brian and Andy. I also hope that we get some periodic vlogs throughout the year, but know that I am officially a campblood blog fan (even if I haven’t joined the facebook page yet).
I was feeling kind of let down by the True Blood finale. I liked everything having to do with Sam, and I do mean *everything*, but everything else was weak. The show really did fizzle once they left Dallas/LODI. It sounds like Alan Ball is listening to the buzz on things (based on that EW interview), and it sounds like Season 3 will be back to Season 1′s greatness.
Thanks Guys for Blood Work Too. I’ve loved the show since ep2so1. I want to get you guys opinion on the whole Eric/Queen bit. The whole scene with Eric and the Queen. It does say that Eric found Sookie interesting/lovely even before he had tasted her blood. It was almost like Sophie Ann knew that Eric was in love with her. Maybe Sophie Ann knows from Sookie’s cousin that she is a fairy. Anyways about the fairy part. I find that AB made Jason to be under Maryann’s spell but if he is truly Sookie’s brother then he is a fairy too, right? haha “fairy” sorry had to laugh. Why could Maryann control Jason and not Sookie? I feel really bad for Tara about her Eggs spilling on the ground, but I didn’t like Eggs anyway. She and Sam need to go on the “Sam Finding Birth Parents” Quest together. She and Sam made a better couple.
Loved you guys the season can’t believe its over. I will be checking in though. See you for Blood Work Tres
Yinx – in the Alan Ball interview, he says something about how sometimes traits skip a generation or don’t always show up in siblings. (Which makes sense since Jason doesn’t have any telepathic ability)
I watch your recaps for Season 1 then lost you guys when Season 2 started. I didn’t know where you went to. I looked for you for weeks and then I found you! I booked marked Camp Blood so I can enjoy your recaps again. You did a great job again this Season and I have to agree with a previous poster that sometimes you recaps were much more enjoyable to watch than the episode you had to review.
I think that if Eric and Sookie goes off to look for Bill we will see Sam off to look for his family and Jason and Tara hooking up back in town. I hope we see more of Pam this season possibly with Lafayette selling that V. Oh and I think that Sookie just liked how the ring looked on her hand and the idea of being engaged more than wanting to be married to Bill.
“Oh and I think that Sookie just liked how the ring looked on her hand and the idea of being engaged more than wanting to be married to Bill.”
haha same here
ooo shiny ! expensive! ringgggg!
Thank you for an awesome season of TB recaps – yours are the funniest and closest to what me and my friends are thinking as we watch.
Can’t wait until a new batch next season, but I will be visiting the blog all the time
LY
PS Giggle Patch!!! OMG THAT brings back such memories …. I think I need to look for youtube vids of Carol and Paula LOL
For those of you who don’t know what a chuckle patch is…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q51Nki1PldA
“If you were a ding dong bell and I pressed your button… what would you say?”
OH… those silly flowers! They always make me laugh!
what the heck did i just watch?! **puzzled**
I make a subtle reference to “The chuckle patch” in the vlog which is something that kids from the 70′s might remember watching.
Thanks guys for all of your hard work and fun sketches and reviews. I am still giggling over Andy being smited into a puppet unicorn who is attacked by your cat. I always look forward to your reviews.
I think your review for episode 12 was very generous, but it is the last one of the entire year and it was so much better than episode 11 and 10 that it looks great in comparison. Also, it just feels bad to end the season of a favorite show with a bad review.
There were several issues that I scratched my head over but the worst one was-
Jason and Andy parked far away so they can sneak up on the party only to just walk right in the middle of the group and abducted and converted to minions. That story line just laid down and died.
I was anticipating a fight scene of some sort and the meat tree to go up in sizzling charbroiled flames and pandemonium breaking out during the pentacle of the ceremony. During this chaos the God would actually show up and prior to the union being consummated, MaryAnn is killed by Bill while Eric holds Sookie down and safe from getting caught up in the insanity. Followed by a big supernatural Poof! Bye-bye deity. Oh well, it is a TV series and not a movie.
I think the only reason why the Queen is more tolerable in this episode is the reduced screen time and Eric being in the shot. But it made sense that she doesn’t want the word to get out that she and Eric are selling V. Some behaviors are not acceptable in the vampire world just like the human world. A president can make a preemptive war with Iraq and kill hundreds of thousands of people but if we discovered he had the CIA selling crack for him he would be tossed out of office and into jail.
But all in all it is still the best series I have seen on TV in a long time and I will be there come season 3.
Thanks again for all of your fun reviews.
Lafayette messed with my head a bit at first when he told Sookie to take her clothes off, then lowered himself so slowly to get the dress. I thought “surely they won’t say he really likes women.” But he didn’t change with the black eyed susan deal. I believe that those who had black eyes weren’t mindless zombies being something they weren’t. I believe they simply lost all inhibition and were who they truly wanted to be, say what they really wanted to say, and all that, but society’s rules of what is “right” prevents them. But, to my beloved Lafayette’s credit, he didn’t change. What you see is what you get with him and he is who he is….Worship him, bitches!
But my theory that I’ll stick with till my dying day that they were being who they really were without inhibition brings up my “Whatever Sookie” moment. When Maryanne died and Sookie hugged Tara, I would have thrown something at the TV if something throwable was nearby. “Oh, it wasn’t you saying those things.” Naughty language alert, but bull-shit! Not only did Tara say nasty things while in black eyes, but she said things in her temporary sober spell at Lafayette’s. Maybe they’re better adjusted than me, but I couldn’t be friends with these people after seeing them acting without any self-restraint, considering the things they said. And why didn’t Sookie say to all of them, “get your asses in my house and clean up your damn mess!”?
Ding Dong, the bitch is dead…
But, really, I must acknowledge Michelle Forbes for being so good at making so many hate her this season. I’m sure, I hope, she isn’t such a bitch in real life. She should win an award for her performance. The saying goes “the villain is the hero of his own story” and she pulled that off perfectly. And she looked so much better without Spock eyebrows she had years ago on “Homicide: Life on the Street.”
So is Hoyt gonna cut the apron strings this time? He’s a sweet guy, and his relationship with Jessica was one of the absolute best things of the season, but will he keep going back to mama? I don’t know. When Jessica pointed out Maxine saying mean things or something and his reaction was “she’s my mama. She’s allowed. Where are you from?” from the episode before this one, it made me wonder. Being a Southerner, I know plenty of mama’s boys. They all might get mad at them, but they always come back to mama.
The cliffhanger didn’t bother me, because Bill seems like the kid the teacher told to monitor his classmates and write down who talked or misbehaved while she was out of the room. It just brings in the weres, and a whole lotta new characters.
I thought it was interesting how in the books Maryann isn’t killed, but Eric and Pam gave her a tribute of a bull (which, as I recall, wasn’t deemed good enough and which is why she came after the humans) and in TB they seemed to make a nod to that by having Sam turn into a bull in order to kill her. Good touch there. I totally was not expecting what did happen– when the white bull walked in I was thinking “So they decided that Dionysus does exist? Seriously?” But the way things turned out was much more satisfying than that.
Thanks for the link to the Alan Ball interview– he definitely revealed a lot about the next season! Here’s hoping he makes a good choice in casting Alcide. And thanks for doing the vlog, and the paper dolls, and everything! I’ll definitely not be a stranger between now and season 3.
it’s the original pilot, before that scene , we see a woman in a flowing dress in th ewoods watching Sooks. I posted on TB about it last year. The pilot is still on some free tv show sites. It was changed in ep 1, that and Tara’s actress change to Ruttina.
Poot! *BWAHAHAHA!!!!*
I’m so bummed the season is over, already. You guys are rock stars.
I totally agree with the commentary about the parallels between gay men and Jessica banging truckers at truck stops. I’m really intrigued by how the metaphor of vamps as gays was very blatant when the show started, but now they’re drawing it into the relationships and making it more subtle. Jessica is definitely an example of this, what with the truck stops and also the whole “You can’t give my son babies!” smack-down Maxine laid on her.
Other examples would be Bill & Sookie having to fly all the way to Vermont for their marriage to be legal and Sam being disowned by his adoptive family when they found out what he really was.
It’s very well crafted and I give them kudos for that, but if they don’t add a heaping helping of straight-up gay text on top of the subtext next season, I’ma throw a full-on hissy! ;Þ
i’m a little bit surprised by your rating for this episode. i mean, yes it’s the last one and it was better than 10 and 11 but… i don’t think it deserves 9 grace joneses.
i noticed some things that haven’t been pointed out yet:
sam can only turn into an animal if he’s imprinted on it, right? so , when did he ever meet a white bull?
and in that gore-y scene he impales MaryAnn with his horn, shifts back into his human form and the impaling horn becomes his arm? that’s just not possible.
the whole proposing thing was very uncomfortable for me. my first thought was that bill’s timing wasn’t smart because gran’s dress got just ripped apart and i don’t know if that’s a cultural thing (i’m from austria, europe), but for me the wedding dress is something that’s handed down from mother to dauther – or in that case from grandmother to daughter.
when sookie took her time to answer i really wasn’t sure what she was going to say because for me this had a strong feeling of bill wanting to possess her and i was like “don’t do it, don’t do it, please don’t do it”.
all in all i would say that half of the episode was to clear things up and the other half was to build new storylines. between those parts there were a few seconds of black screen and for a moment i really thought that was the end (^^) because everything was back to normal and the whole meanad-problem was gone …. and then trouble started again *sigh*
my whatever sookie moment is a whatever jason moment.
… i mean, he could have aimed for the arm or the leg or ANYthing but the head.
why did he kill eggs? that’s just plain stupid, even beyond jason’s average amount of stupid. like sookie said in season one: he may be a lot but he’s NOT a killer. i’d like to quote here but i can’t find the part
eggs dying… i didn’t like him but that wasn’t necessary and it’s yet another problem tara has to deal with – i feel sorry for her.
i was very surprised that jessica said that she was going to meet hoyt but left town instead (or at least i think she did). that’s sad. they made a cute couple and i liked their scenes…. but i can understand that she wants to leave and make experiences on her own / try to find out who she is and what she’s gonna do with her “new” live.
next season…. i want to see more pam (cos she rocks) and lafayette (cos he rocks even more) and i’m very excited to learn about sam’s birth parents! i’m not looking forward to the jason-killing-storyline and the eggs-mourning. oh and i’m definitely for more dream sequences with eric
thank your for your lovely recaps, andy and brian – i’m gonna check back regularely to read all the reviews and other stuff. you make me laugh so much!
bye
ps: i’m sorry for possible mistakes and for me not using the shift-key
About Sam’s transformations:
I didn’t have a problem with his hands being the bull horns. This is magic… not reality. And as for him taking the shape of a bull when there was no bull for him to look at/ copy: well, Sam just got a huge transfusion of Bill’s vampire blood, and I took it that Sam has “super shifter power” for a little bit now because of it. You know how normal humans’ senses and abilities are all heightened… so I can only imagine that it enhances supernatural abilities as well.
About Eggs: yeah, that was messy. Why Jason couldn’t shoot his hand with the knife in it? I dunno… wanted to end that storyline before next season I suspect.
MORE PAM! MORE PAM!! Yes, Pam is super-hot and totally fun. I sure hope she gets some serious spotlight action next season! But who knows?
About the wedding dress: yeah… I’m certain Sookie was real upset about that. I think Sookie is going thru so much sh*t right now (ontop of not even knowing “who/ what she is”) that the wedding dress disaster fell out of the spotlight. But it’s certainly a significant event and symbol. Maybe it’s supposed to symbolize Sookie’s harsh self-discovery of her supernatural heritage.
Coming from a crusty, 41 year old heterosexual woman: YOU GUYS RAWK
HA!
I like that you describe yourself to be a finely-aged baguette. Well we think baguettes rawk, too!
