Irrelevant and belated point of correction on “A Nightmare on Elm Street 2″: It wasn’t a parakeet, it was a peach-faced lovebird (make of that what you will).
I. Love. You. You can be Melanie Daniels to my Mitch Brenner any day!
Hi B two thing first i see that the reviews for the remakes of My blood valentine and Friday the 13th are not here which i kind of remember you review them and second can you review the 1988 Judgement Day with Cesar Romero
Since there was no way to comment on the site of the review of “Black Christmas”, I figured I’d put my two-cents-worth in here.
I saw BC back in ’75, and to say that it scared the shit out of a full-grown man is a total understatement. My roommate actually was out of town the night it was on t.v., so I had to watch it alone….and it turned out to be one of those “do you remember where you were when Kennedy was shot?” moments. It was a Saturday night, and I had decided not to go out; rather I would stay in and watch what I figured would be an okay, but not overly scary flick. Boy, was I wrong!
After sitting through the dry-cleaning-bagging at the beginning, but especially the phone calls from Billy, I was so shit-scared that I not only went out hunting for ANYONE to sleep with, AFTER getting totally shit-faced, I actually went from WeHo over the hill to a bar in the frakin’ Valley! No luck………got bombed, yes, but couldn’t catch a cold or a “friend for the night.” Sooooooo, home to a creaky apartment, two Seconals (on top of a LOT of booze), and I was finally able to sleep through the night.
TCM just showed BC a month or so ago, and I’m here to say it remains as shit-scary as it was the first time I saw it….and I’m now officially of Social Security-collecting age.
Gotta be the scariest movie of its type ever made. Great review, and anyone who doesn’t believe your warnings about this frightfest is seriously underestimating the ability of Canadians to scare the bejeezus out of their neighbors to the south.
Interview With a Vampire! Great movie! I named my daughter Claudia after the little girl vampire in the movie. Sexy vamps with long hair! Yummy!!
It would be good if you could review WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH HELEN? from 1971 starring Debbie Reynolds and with Shelley Winters in the title role as a repressed lesbian. This murder thriller set in the 1930′s and directed by Curtis Harrington is great. The script is by Henry Farrell of WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? fame.
Wait….where’s John Carpenter’s “They Live”? Surely there’s something gay in it…..hmmmm it does have Rowdy Roddy Piper in it and Keith David.
Minor point of correction on “Nightmare on Elm Street 2″: it wasn’t a canary, it was a peach-faced lovebird. (Make of that what you will.)
